Garbage Truck Into a House

15:57 – Crews were dispatched to the area of Butler St and Kittanning St in Etna Boro for multiple reports of a truck that struck a house.  Etna police arrived on scene and reported heavy structural damage and a garbage truck was on its side near the house.  Both occupants of the truck were self-extricated and were tended to by Shaler-Hampton EMS.  Police spoke with the residents of the house and acknowledged that everybody had escaped the house and nobody else was injured.

Upon arrival, the rescue crew from 260 Rescue and 260 Squad shored up the front of the house with our Paratech Rescue Struts.  These afforded the 149 crew who were building shores out of wood time to get the job done neatly and thoroughly.  264 and 265 crews were out on Route 8, conducting multiple tasks, including removing damaged guiderails, laying down oil-dri for a large fluid spill along route 8 and for fire protection while the vehicle was being righted.

Units were on scene for a little over 4 hours, and the job was done with great care and was spearheaded by 149 Chief (Greg Porter).

We would also like to give great props to the crew from Ferras Towing.  The preparation and precision of up-righting that truck were nothing short of spectacular!  Great job to you guys as well!
