Emergency Response

The Cherry City Volunteer Fire Company is run from our station at 309 Davis Ave in Shaler Township. We are staffed by 20+ volunteer firefighters, who respond to approximately 300 calls for service each year.

Fire Suppression

We respond to an average of 30 building fires, 10 car fires and 5 brush fires in a year. Our ladder truck is the primary response vehicle on all fires.

Rescue Operations

We respond to an average of 60 calls for rescue service each year. This includes vehicle crashes, technical rescues (trench, high angle, water) and EMS assist calls that require extrication. Our rescue truck is the primary response vehicle on all rescue calls.

Water Rescue Operations

Our Newest Achievement! Currently we operate 2 inflatable Zodiac-style boats to assist with water rescues along the Allegheny River and beyond!

Currently, our company members have achieved these levels of certification:

Water Rescue First Responder: 72% of Firefighters

Water Rescue Emergency Response: 72% of Firefighters

Emergency Boat Operations: 68% of Firefighters

Ice Rescue: 18% of Firefighters

Severe Weather & Other Calls

The remainder of our calls are a variety of incidents, to include severe weather damage analysis, electrical problems, smoke investigations, fire alarms, medical assists and many others. If there is a problem that someone cannot get the help for, we are usually the ones who are dispatched to mitigate the problems!
