About Us

In the year 1919, the suburban community of Shaler Township was rapidly expanding.  There was a lot of home construction ongoing at the top of the hill between Millvale and Etna, known locally as Cherry City.  A group of residents came together and realized that there was and would be a need for fire protection with all of the new residents moving into the area.  These men formed the Cherry City Volunteer Fire Company.  Chartered in 1919 and Incorporated in 1921, the Company has been serving proudly since.

Cherry City VFC is located within the First District of Shaler Township.  We are the southernmost portion of the Township, bordered by the City of Pittsburgh to the South, Millvale Boro to the West and Etna Boro to the East.  We protect about 2000 residential units and 10 businesses within our 1.5 Square Mile first due.  We provide fire suppression and rescue services to our residents, visitors and to our mutual aid companies.  We pride ourselves with our dedication and education.
