History

  • 1940-1979

The Cherry City Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. was organized on October 6th, 1919, with a roll of forty-one members. Cherry City was the third volunteer fire company to be organized in Shaler Township, following Undercliff VFC in 1909 and Bauerstown VFD in 1912. Sharps Hill VFC was next in 1930, followed by Elfinwild VFC in 1931, and finally, Shaler Villa VFC in 1950.

Through the past 100+ years, our Company has enrolled over 700 members and 18 pieces of apparatus! Starting with those 41 members and a hand-drawn hand-cart bought off of Etna Boro, we have evolved into the Company we are today, hosting 46 active members, a 75′ Ladder Truck, Rescue Truck and Squad.

We have a long and proud history, beginning back in 1919. The volunteers of Cherry City VFC would like you to take a journey back in time and see where the Company has come from, through the good and bad times, to become what we are today!
