Around 00:45 hours, multiple calls reporting a house on fire in the 1100 blk of North Avenue in Millvale. 191 Assistant arrived with a working fire. 260 Truck split their crew and began on fire suppression stretching a 1.75 attack line off 259 engine and interior truck work opening up for the engine companies. 260 Engine laid out and hooked up to Engine 149. Quick response from companies limited minimal fire damage to the interior.
This marks the 5th working fire and 96th call of service since January 1st. 260 crews responded with 6 volunteers. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
Also, we would like for the public to be aware, while battling the house fire, there were a few vehicles that drove over our “supply line”, which is the hose that is hooked up from the hydrant to the pumper. THIS IS OUR LIFELINE WHILE INSIDE OF A BURNING BUILDING! The hose was damaged and the pumper lost pressure due to the hole the vehicle caused at the coupling (where 2 hoses meet). If you are seen driving over this hose, you could be criminally charged for injuries firefighters incur being without water inside of a burning building as well as liable for the damage to the hose, which currently runs at $950 per section. If you see a line dropped in the street, just turn around and find another route… or ask a firefighter to assist you!
