2019 Incident Gallery
Below is a synopsis of he incidents that we handled in 2019. From house fires to vehicle crashes, we saw it all this year, including nearly 100 calls for service on July 11th alone, due to severe flooding in the area.
2/8 – Fox Chapel House Fire – Sweetwater Ln.
Cherry City, along with many companies in the Allegheny Valley, were dispatched out early this morning for a working house fire in Fox Chapel Boro. No reported injuries.
3/24 – Shaler Twp House Fire – Shaler Dr.
260 Truck responded for a Chimney Fire
4/5 – Ross Twp House Fire – Peoples Rd
Truck 260 handled a 3-alarm house fire in Ross Township. Truck crew handled utilities, vented the roof, and overhaul. Crews were on scene for about 4 hours.
4/30 – Sharpsburg House Fire – Middle St
260 crews were sent into Sharpsburg for multiple calls for a house on fire. 265AST arrived on scene with a working fire on the 2nd floor. 260 truck and rescue with a combined 12 were tasked with laddering the building, exterior ventilation, and overhaul. Engine crews from 102/265 extinguished the fire.
5/8 – Etna Boro Commercial Fire – Butler St
Dozens of companies from around the North Hills and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire responded to Etna for a warehouse / storage facility on fire.
7/11 – Shaler Twp House Struck by Lightning – Davis Ave
A full box was struck for a lightning strike/wire down that sparked a small fire at a residence on Davis Ave, just down from the station. Crews investigated thoroughly to ensure there was no active fire. Duquesne Light remained on scene to re-attach the line.
7/20 – Millvale Boro House Fire – Reserve St
A resident reported that he had brown smoke in his basement when he called 9-1-1. As 191 Assistant arrived on scene, he reported smoke in the basement and now on the first floor. All residents were evacuated and accounted for. Crews began a hunt of finding the fire, which was determined to be coming from a crawl space in the house. Crews opened up the floor and walls in the kitchen area and knocked the fire down. Extension was limited and crews remained on scene checking for any hot spots and to assist with fire investigators.
9/20 – Millvale Boro House Fire – Logan St
Shortly after 5AM, company 260 was dispatched to assist with a reported house fire on Logan St in Millvale. Police arrived on scene and reported a working fire. The fire was knocked down within 20 minutes of being dispatched. Crews remained on scene checking for extension and the Allegheny County Fire Marshal was handling the investigation.
9/20 – Shaler Twp House Fire – Heather Dr
At about 8:20PM, crews were dispatched to the 100-block of Heather Dr for a report of a vehicle on fire in an attached garage. Within 15 minutes of dispatch, crews had the fire pretty well knocked down and were conducting overhaul. We would like to thank the homeowner for being vigilant in closing the man-door between the garage and basement, as you can see from the photos, prevented the house from being a total loss.
9/24 – Shaler Twp Vehicle Crash – Babcock Blvd
Just after 10PM, Calls started coming into the Allegheny County 9-1-1 for a vehicle crash in the 1800 Block of Babcock Boulevard in Shaler. 259 Chief was on scene immediately and reported at least 2 vehicles, one unconscious and 2 trapped. 260 Rescue 2 was on the road immediately with 5 and had the heavily trapped critical patient extricated and turned over to EMS within 20 minutes, removing the driver’s side of vehicle #1. 259 Rescue arrived on scene and took the patient trapped in vehicle #2 and had them extricated quickly as well. Shaler-Hampton EMS and Ross EMS handled patient care and transport. Allegheny County Homicide Crash Reconstruction Team was called out to investigate the crash. The road was re-opened around 3AM.
10/18 – Ross Twp Smoke Inside 5 Below – McKnight Rd
260 Truck was added on the upgrade from a fire alarm at the Five Below Store in North Hills Village to a Full Assignment due to smoke in the structure. The Truck took the front side of the building and sent manpower to the roof. The crews checked all of the roof units and set up PPV ventilation at the front door to clear the smoke. It was found to be an issue with one of the air handlers.
11/24 – Shaler Twp Vehicle Crash – Mt Royal Blvd
Call Initially dispatched at 2:10AM – The Cherry City Volunteers, added to the call at 2:15 due to an upgrade on the call, assisted into the 300 Blk of Mt Royal Boulevard this date for a report of a truck that rolled over a hillside with 2 patients, one critical and one serious, both entrapped. Cherry City went to work over the hillside stabilizing the truck and began extrication, utilizing the eDraulic rescue tools to remove the roof. The critical patient was extricated from the vehicle at 2:53 and was extracted up the hillside using a rope system. The second patient was extricated at 2:59 and was brought up on the same rope system. Our crews searched the hillside due to the possibility of a 3rd person that was with the vehicle, however, that was unfounded. We remained on scene to assist with lighting for the investigation.
