Vehicle Rescue Training Night

20260512 Vehicle Rescue Tng026

The Cherry City Volunteers took to the parking lot this evening for training with a donated vehicle. Before working on the vehicle, the crew was refreshed with the correct packing of the bumper line on the Engine!

After, the volunteers were introduced or refreshed on basic vehicle rescue. Captain Skalos focused the first half of training on checking for hazards around a vehicle crash (That could potentially harm the rescuers) as well as stabilization of a vehicle (on all 4 tires and on its side). Captain Skalos also brought out the pneumatic lifting devices (Airbags) that can lift a cat in the event someone is trapped under.

The second half of training was a review of a scenario that we encountered a couple years ago in Bauerstown’s area along Geyer Rd. A vehicle was found on its side and a patient was partially ejected through the driver door window. The Patient, whose head and some shouder was sticking out, was pinned between the vehicle door and roadway. Any movement would have the vehicle potentially crush the patient’s head or neck area. Fortunately, the responders around the Shaler Area are trained and equipped for these type of scenarios. The patient was removed without further incident. The crews during training simulated as close as possible to that scenario, working diligintly on patient care and removal.

We never know what type of scenario we will be dispatched to next, but we are always prepared.
